Softpro Awarded Patent by United States Patent Office

The Softpro Group, world market leader in signature management systems, was recently awarded US Patent 8,090,161 for its “Systems and method for signature verification”.

The patent is held by Softpro Scientist Dr. Christiane Kaplan, who is responsible for the components for dynamic signature verification in the products and solutions of the Softpro Group for more than twelve years now. Providing a reliable way to verify electronic signatures is one of the most crucial aspects for Softpro’s fast growing E-Signing business as it is the trust building foundation for various forms of signing without paper.

The patent addresses methods which can be used to verify dynamic aspects signatures captured on different devices. Among the aspects covered are attempts for spatial measurements, measurements over time, and frequency. These measurements can be of points on a signature, but they can also be pressure, velocity, and acceleration, to name just a few. These different aspects can then be analyzed using, for example, time series, and spectral similarities based on wavelet-transformations. In another embodiment, these analysis systems and methods can be applied to written signatures as well as dynamic written signatures. In addition to this patent, Softpro holds one for the static verification of verification of signature images which was acquired from IBM several years ago.
