Microsoft launched the Tablet PC platform in 2002 and SOFTPRO was part of this development from these early days. The Tablet PC specification defines the capturing of 133 different pressure levels which cater for trustwortrhy signature capturing.
Today Tablet PC Features are supported in Microsoft Operating System Windows 7 (except starter edition) and Microsoft Office products. For those that have tried a Tablet PC in its early days and decided not to use it they may quite surprised about the improvements in handwriting recognition and the input panel in the meantime. Personalized custom dictionaries help with the recognition of specialized vocabulary (like medical and technical terms).
Tablet PCs for serious business run on Microsoft Windows - not always, but very often
No doubt: Apple has many followers and many SOFTPRO employees are iPhone fans, too. In the corporate world Tablet PCs running on Windows have some advantages worth considering. Many businesses rely predominantly on Windows, Office, and Internet Explorer. Windows Tablet PCs offer a familiar application environment. A seamless sync and merge of data between the tablet PC and the desktop is yet Microsoft's domain. In other words: No installation of iTunes required. IT administrators in corporates might find tools like Active Directory and Group Policy very relevant which enable them to centrally manage and maintain the devices. So, depending in the business requirements a Windows Tablet PC might be the first choice for "Taking Tablets seriously".
