Solutions for scenarios where a dedicated focus on security requirements is required for Electronic Signing

SignSecure stands for a method of secure end-to-end communication between signature capturing devices and software.

The major aim is a very high level of prevention against fraud attacks. An additional benefit is the provision of strong arguments against constructed claims of non-repudiation.

SOFTPRO's trademark for electronic signing with specific enhanced security needs.

Typically used to promote a bundle of a SignPad signature tablet with encrypted data transfer and SignDoc in its desktop version as a bundle. This combination is primiarily in operation in financial institutions.

The major security features are part of the software. A focus on the hardware only would contain certain limitations which may create loopholes. When judging the security of a process the focus of fraudsters is typically on its weakest link. Some signature tablets of other vendors already come with certificates for digital signatures (private and public keys). For fraudsters it may be attractive to manipulate the signature tablet, breach its security and sign with the manipulated device.

Reality Check: Weighing security risks on real-life experience

SOFTPRO suggests spending some thoughts which fraud attacks are really likely in the environment where the system is intended to be used. Based on our experience we know that some fraud scenarios are rather theoretical as they effort for an attack is comparably high when considering the potential benefit. Fraudsters tend focus on attack options requiring a minum effort with a maximum in return. With SignSecure it is very likely that the authenticity or integrity of electronic documents is not the weakest link.

Brand History: From a Log-On Product to a Security Oriented Trademark for a Bundle

Until 2007 the term SignSecure was used for a software for Tablet PCs with Microsoft® Windows® XP Tablet Edition. It offered the option to sign-on the PC using a handwritten signature as alternative to the classic Windows log-on by means of user-id and password. It was primarily developed for slate Tablet PCs, built on the platform of SignWare. However the sales of slate Tablet PCs remained at a very low level prior to the arrival of the iPad which revolutionized the whole category.

SOFTPRO decided to discontinue the log-on product and to focus on providing signatures primarily in combination with documents or transactions. Today SOFTPRO is providing solutions to sign documents on Tablet PCs running on Windows, iOS and Android. The off-the-shelf solution for Tablet PCs running Windows is SignDoc Desktop
